Uzziah is yet another story of a righteous king in Judah who becomes accomplished through the Lord and then lifts up his heart in pride to his downfall. As I read about Uzziah, the Law of Consecration came to mind. Wealth and power have the ability to corrupt, but they are not bad in of themselves. The Law of Consecration, like the rest of God's commandments, is not to take from us but to bless us. I believe this law, especially as we find ourselves in possession of greater time, talents, or wealth, is a blessing to help us remain focused on our covenant relationship and not allow these good things to become idols above our God. It also reminds us where all blessings come from so we do not find our hearts lifted up in pride.
