At the end of Judges 7, after defeating the Midianites, the Israelites story two of their leaders.
At the end of Judges 7, after defeating the Midianites, the Israelites story two of their leaders. One they slew upon the rock and the other in the winepress. Both of these locations have symbolic representations that point us towards the Lord. The Midianites represented the Israelites sin and disobedience for not following the initial commandment to destroy them completely and for worshipping their gods. Their foe was their sin. By slaying one upon the rock, that symbolizes us giving up our sins to know God. We sacrifice our sins and give them to God and then enter into, or renew, a covenant relationship where we KNOW God. The second, being slain in the winepress, makes me think of the Atonement of Christ and how He, pressed beneath the weight of our sin and sorrow, bled from every pour (as visually represented by a winepress) to conquer sin.
