Stone

Joshua 4 - Israelites take 12 stones from the river where the ark passed and the waters divided. When asked what the stones mean, they are so that "all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever."

The Sacred Record - the gold plates where founder under a stone in a stone box.

Exodus 28 - the breastplate has 12 precious stones with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel engraved in them.

Leviticus 24 - blasphemers put to death by stoning

Deuteronomy 27 - take 3 stones from the river Jordan where Israel passed over on dry land and write the laws on them. Build an alter of unhewn, whole(complete, perfect, Sabbath) stones.

1 Kings 5 - they built the temple with hewn stones, but hewed them far away so the sound of the tools could not be heard near the temple.

1 Peter 2 - Christ is the living stone, the cornerstone, elect, precious. The stone which the builders disallowed became the head of the corner. A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense to the disobedient.

1 Kings 21 - Ahab sets up false witness against Naboth and they stone him for blasphemy so Ahab can take his vineyard. The Lord tells Elijah to prophesy that Ahab's blood will be spilt where Naboth's blood was split.

1 Kings 7 - Solomon builds the temple with hewn, precious stones.

Either 3 - the brother of Jared brings 16 stones to the Lord who touches them with His finger to bring light on their journey to the promised land. The Lord also gives him 2 stones (the Urim and Thummim).

Daniel 2 - stone cut out without hands that fills the earth.

Exodus 20 - don't make alters with hewn stones.

Deuteronomy 10 - stone tables with the commandments are placed in the ark (that represents salvation and the presence of God - give our broken hearts with the commandments written on them to God)

Zechariah 3: 9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. (This chapter also speaks of the changing of garments from filthy to clean, the mitre (cap on the head), and the coming of Christ to remove inquiry).

Genesis 28 - Jacob uses a stone as a pillow, has the dream of a ladder to heaven, then sets the stone up as a pillar and anoints it as a house to the Lord.

Exodus 34 -Moses hews new tablets of stone for the 10 commandments.

D&C 130 - everyone who enters the celestial kingdom will be given a white some which will be a Urim and Thummim. This will have a new name written in it, a secret name nobody else knows. (The Urim and Thummim (often pronounced oo-rim and thoo-mim) were sacred, mysterious objects used in ancient Israel by the High Priest to discern the will of God. Translated from Hebrew, the terms roughly mean "lights and perfections" or "revelation and truth". - could this be our hearts made whole and complete? We receive revelation as the Lord speaks to our hearts)

2 Corinthians 3 - write the commandments in your heart, not on stone

Isaiah 28 - 16 ¶ Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

Tablet/Tables

Exodus 31 - Moses receives higher law on stone tablets.

Proverbs 3:3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

Rock

Psalms 62 - 2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved

Deuteronomy 32 - they forgot the rock of their salvation.

Numbers 20 - Moses smites a rock and water comes forth. (He was commanded to just ask, but he smote it and was not allowed to enter the promised land. The water that sustained life came from the rock -Savior. So the symbolism points to Christ as the sustainer of life, or the Redeemer of life)

Isaiah 2 - they will go into the rocks for the fear of the Lord (go to the temples (mountains), go to Christ)

Exodus 34 - Moses hews new tablets of stone for the 10 commandments (preparatory law)

Heart

D&C 2:2 And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers.

Zechariah 3 talks about Joshua standing before an angel of the Lord with Satan there to resist him. His garments are dirty, but the Lord clothes him in clean garments and puts a clean cap (mitre) on his head. He then says that if Joshua will walk in His way and keep His charge He will allow him to walk among angels. It also says Christ will come and remove iniquity from off the earth.

This is a beautiful chapter that reminds me of the temple and the promises of the garment of the priesthood. It is a covering that protects us from the destroyer. How does it protect us? Not the cloth itself, but what it represents and the care we give it to show the care we give what it symbolizes.

The garment was first given to Adam and Eve by Jehovah when they left the garden of Eden. They were fallen, separated from God, and an animal was sacrificed so they could have their nakedness (fallen state, separation from God) covered. This, in turn, symbolizes the sacrifice of the Only Begotten Son of the Father. His sacrifice covers us from our nakedness and fallen state. The garment represents the greatest act of love and sacrifice ever performed. As we honor this with gratitude to our Savior, it protects us from the destroyer by (as we walk in His way and keep His charge) covering our sins and shortcomings. The garment is not meant to protect us from physical harm. It is not a magic underclothing that eliminated suffering and trials. The garment represents the Savior's gift of the Atonement and as we honor it (both the symbol and the symbolized), it will act as a shield and we can be cleansed from the blood and sins of this generation.

As we always remember Him, draw upon Him through our covenant relationship, we will come to know Him, and we will inherit all that our Father has.

9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

10 In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.

When the Lord comes, he will bear up all 7 dispensation, the Sabbath, the plan will be completed, whole, perfected. And iniquity will be gone and the Lord will call His people Zion because they will be of one heart and one mind.
