Genesis 39:5

"And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field."

We know that Joseph is a type of Christ. If we read this scripture, insert the symbolism, and apply it to our lives we can see that if we make Christ the overseer in our house - trust all we have to His care - He will bless us. The next verse goes on to say that Potiphar didn't even know what he had except the bread he ate. This is a good example of trusting in the Lord.

The world is filled with so many things that need our attention, and we can't ignore them, but if we can put our trust in Jehovah, put Him first, everything will work out. It may not be how we planned it, but it will work out how He planned it, and that is good news.

Verse 10 says Potiphar's wife pressed him day by day and he resisted. The footnotes draw a contrast to Sampson, who was pressed daily by Delilah and eventually gave in. These are two stark examples of what happens (in the end) when we keep our covenants and when we break them.

Joseph's response was that his master had made him the greatest in his house, how then could he do this evil in his sight? This also foreshadows Christ and His encounter with Satan after his fast in the wilderness.
