In 1 Samuel 10, the Lord gave Saul another heart, meaning he became a new person, a changed and more holy person. I find it interesting that the Lord gave him this heart, he did not change on his own. While we can change on our own to a degree, the kind of change needed to be with God must be given to us. We must give the Lord our broken heart to make way for a new, whole heart - for the body cannot hold two hearts and serve two masters, and we can never alone return the hewn stone to its godly state. This can only be accomplished through the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

At the end of this chapter, the children of Belial mocked and despised Saul. They questioned his calling. This reminds me of Lehi's vision where people partook of the fruit of the Tree of Life and then those in the great spacious building mocked them. While some left the tree and were ashamed, Saul, like others who stayed, ignored them. The world will try to devalue the new hearts God gives us. It will say those carved of men are better, more beautiful, and it will strive to keep us as the natural man, for that body will reject the new heart. But as we sanctify ourselves, the new heart will take hold, and we will be a new person who can ignore the chiding of the world as Saul did the doubts of the children of Belial.

We have to make room for a new heart by giving up our broken heart, giving up our sins to know God (yada -covenantal relationship). Only then will our bodies have room for another heart (you can't fit two - you can't serve two masters), and only then will it be sanctified so that the transplant will take.
