This reminds me of the first and second great commandments - love the Lord and love others.
2 Samuel 2
26 And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the Lord, and also with men.
This reminds me of the first and second great commandments - love the Lord and love others.
How do we love the Lord? He told us that if we love Him, we should keep His commandments.
How do we love others? The same way. We keep His commandments and we mourn with those who mourn, comfort those that stand in need of comfort. We give to the poor, we fast and pay a generous fast offering. We do not steal, covet, kill, commit adult, etc.. and more so, we do not get angry, we are merciful, charitable, forgiving, long-suffering.
As we search the commandments, we find that they help us think of God and guide us to uplift others.
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these, ye have done it unto Me.
As we love our Savior, we cannot cease to love others, and we will grow in favor with both God and man.
In chapter 1, Hannah is an amazing example of not reacting poorly or taking offense.
First, we don't have record of her retaliating against her husband's other wife for degrading her for being barren.
Later, the Lord's anointed high priest, Eli, puts his foot in his mouth and gets onto her for being drunk when she wasn't. Instead of getting offended and leaving the church and her covenants, she responds with kindness and clarity. Then she is blessed.
If we read the first 10 verses of chapter 2, we see a beautiful song of praise and testimony from Hannah. It is clear that her testimony is on the Rock (chapter 2 verse 2 "neither is there any rock like our God.") and not on anything else -not another god or idol, not a bishop, not a parent, not a prophet. Because of this, she is not offended and driven away by the mistakes of imperfect people, for she trusts in a perfect a Redeemer.
"neither is there any rock like our God" means no idols, nothing above God, and also not putting our faith in anything but God, for He is the rock and foundation that if we build on, when the floods come, our house will stand stong.
