1 Samuel 17 - David and Goliath

-David refused to wear Saul's armor, the armor of man, but instead trusted in the Lord and figuratively went to battle wearing the armor of God.

-he would not use Saul's sword because he had not proved them. However, he had proved the Lord many times before including his victories over a lion and a bear. He trusted the Lord because he had already practiced trusting the Lord. We must practice trusting our Savior daily so when it matters we can trust Him then.

-David took down Goliath with a simple stone. Jesus Christ is the Rock, our foundation, and is the stone cast down and trodden on by many as worthless, but ultimately stuck down the greatest enemy of God's people, death and sin.

-while David would not use the sword of Saul, and instead used a stone and trusted the Lord. Goliath died by his own sword. Our own actions and our pride are the instruments that ultimately destroy us if we choose not to turn to the Lord and trust in Him.

-Goliaths armor did not protect him. The works of man, in all their bulk and might failed to save, just as the tower of man fails to reach heaven. Christ is the only path to salvation.

-David was a type of Christ. He entered the battlefield in humility and unadorned by the worldly understanding of what makes a king. He was a shepherd, who multiple times saved his sheep from deadly enemies. And he finally struck down the enemy of Israel and delivered them. His story is a beautiful example of what our Savior would eventually do at an infinitely grander scale.
