Moses 8

21 And also, after that they had heard him, they came up before him, saying: Behold, we are the sons of God; have we not taken unto ourselves the daughters of men? And are we not eating and drinking, and marrying and giving in marriage? And our wives bear unto us children, and the same are mighty men, which are like unto men of old, men of great renown. And they hearkened not unto the words of Noah.22 And God saw that the wickedness of men had become great in the earth; and every man was lifted up in the imagination of the thoughts of his heart, being only evil continually.

Why does the Lord warn us against pride so frequently? Everything He teaches or commands us is for our own good. So, what is the effect pride has on us? Pride teaches us to rely on ourselves and to put our will first. Pride is refusing to give God the only thing that is truly ours to give, and pride is refusing to believe that we need a Redeemer.

We are fallen, imperfect, and cannot pay the price of sin ourselves. Our Savior, in His infinite love, paid the infinite price, the sum of all sorrow, to overcome the fall for us. Pride robs us of the practice of relying on our Savior for help. In fact, pride is the practice of not accepting His help. And as practice makes permanent, pride permanently denies us the perfection only our Savior can offer us.

Pride is the number one way in which a person chooses to separate themselves from the Gospel, the Plan of Salvation, and our Savior. Pride is not accepting what our Savior offers us. That is why we are warned against it over and over again.

I'll add, it's a direct comparison to the flood we learn about in this chapter. Though the doors are open to all, pride kept them off the arc. Don't let pride keep us from being saved.
