When I think of the story of Jonah, the clearest symbolism of Christ is the 3 days and nights he spends in the belly of the great fish. As I read today, this verse stood out to me:

"Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them."

At this point, they knew they had to sacrifice Jonah to be saved, but they tried to save themselves first. Despite how hard they rowed, they could not save themselves. It was only through sacrifice and the grace of God they were able to be saved.

Miracle

Today we went on a hike near Paloma Park. The weather outside was beautiful, overcast, preparing for a sprinkle later that night. We came across a 10 get rock wall on the side of the trail and I asked the kids if they wanted to climb it, to which they all immediately started up different routes of the rock. Addie took the vehicle face. There were plenty of good holds, but the quality of the rock was questionable. I asked if she'd like a spot, to which she replied she would not. But as she climbed, I was promoted to move closer anyways. She got stuck at the last move to get over the top and made many attempts at a high step but couldn't find purchase. As she tried again, the hold she had with her left hand broke off, leaving her hanging by her right hand and swung her around 180 degrees so her right arm was twisted and her neck to the wall. She had a strong grip and did wonderfully. I was able to reach up and pull her down. She was a little scraped on her arm and somewhat shocked, but it served as multiple good lessons and metaphors.

Build your faith on a strong rock (fitting for our study of the OT this year as we focus on finding Christ)

(secular, and much needed for my boys who think they are invincible and can climb whatever they want without a rope) no matter how good you are, there are variables outside of your control. A hold could break and you could fall.

Heavenly Father watched over Addie and protected her. It could have been much worse. He promoted me to move closer to spot or catch her. His hand is in our lives daily, and I am grateful for His love.

Addie finished the hike, and despite initially complaining about going on a hike, says she thoroughly enjoyed it
