Moses named his sons Gershom and Eliezer, meaning "I am a stranger in a foreign land" and "God of help". I love these names. We are all strangers in this foreign land - celestial beings living in a telestial world, trying to figure out who we are. But we are not alone, the same God who "was [Moses's] help, and delivered [him] from the sword of Pharaoh" (Exodus 18:4) helps us in our sojourn.
He helps through revelation, church leaders, scripture, priesthood, covenants that yoke us with Him, prayer, prophets, elders quorum and relief society, ministering, and He helps through the greatest divine intervention in history, the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Yes, this is a strange land and a difficult journey, but God is a God of help.
Jethro helped Moses organize the Israelites so that everyone could be spiritually and physically attended to. This is ministering. Our work in ministering is the Lord's work.
