Exodus 16:7 And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the Lord.

These are the words the Lord spoke to the children of Israel when they were hungry in the wilderness. The next morning they received manna, bread from heaven. This manna saved the Israelites, the same way that the Bread of Life saves us. This miracle provided in the wilderness is a shadow of Christ. The Israelites see the glory of the Lord which is salvation because of the bread.

Moses 1:39

For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

John 6:35

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

But even with the salvation of God in their midsts, these chosen people made mistakes. They murmured, they took too little manna on the sixth day, they left manna overnight. They faltered and stumbled over what we might call simple commandments causing the Lord to lament "How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?" (Exodus 16:28)

Because of their slowness to obey, the children of Israel suffered many afflictions. These afflictions were blessings to help bring them close to the Lord, to trust and rely on Him. How many simple commandments do we murmured at? We have the Bread of Life, yet we still fall short.

The Lord promises He will never forsake His people. But we need to draw near into Him so that He may be near us.

Drawing near us not a passive thing, it means being engaged, even anxiously engaged in helping others partake of the Bread of Life that they may feel the Savior's love, that they might see His work and His glory in their lives. And that we may see it in ours.
