A lot of important moments in biblical history take place at a well, and many at the same well (that Abraham dug). These events at wells often resulted in major changes for the individuals involved and a clear progression of God's plan. What is the significance of a well? It provides water needed to sustain life, and in the eastern desert where most of the biblical stories take place, water is all the more precious.

Jesus, also at a well, tells a Samaritan woman that He is the Living Water. He is the means by which life is sustained, both physical and spiritual. The stories of wells in the Old Testament point us towards Christ. They were visited often to sustain life. Likewise, we must constantly visit places where we can draw up the Living Water to sustain our lives, and then, like Rebekah, put in effort to draw again for others, sharing with them the same life-sustaining grace we have received ourselves.
