Joseph is like an olive branch (1 Nephi 15) that when a famine came was grafted back in to save the rest of his family. Just like the natural branch is grafted back into the House of Israel during this famine of truth.
Genesis 45
20 Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours.
This reminds me of Lehi's family leaving their riches behind, and we cannot take our stuff to the next life. This is a good reminder to not idolize anything. What God has to offer is far greater.
How to receive revelation and understand symbolism.
1 Nephi 15
11 Do ye not remember the things which the Lord hath said?—If ye will not harden your hearts, and ask me in faith, believing that ye shall receive, with diligence in keeping my commandments, surely these things shall be made known unto you.
Matthew 25
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
How is mourning with, comforting, uplifting, and serving others serving our Savior? This is not doctrine, and I don't pretend to understand any part of the metaphysical science behind the Atonement of Christ, but I do know that he felt all the sorrow and pain we will ever know. So, perhaps, just maybe, when we lessen sorrow or pain for others in any degree, it's one drop of agony less that our Savior had to endure. I like to think of it that way.
