Unlike different prophetical records the scriptures provide, one thing that makes Elisha so unique is, ironically, the lack of uniqueness in many of the miracles he is instrument in performing. It's difficult to study Elisha and not wonder if you are studying Elijah a second time. Both brought a boy back from death, multiplied flour and oil for a widow, parted the Jordan River. Indeed, his very name is close to the same.

I believe one reason for this was to provide the people of Elisha's day, as well as our own, an unmistakable example that the priesthood is requisite to do specific things. My mirroring the acts of God through Elijah, Elisha exemplifies that priesthood authority is the same, has power to perform miracles, and is passed down from one to another as ordained by God.

This pattern stands out to me as I consider the similarities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the ancient church of Jehovah. Many of the same miracles and rituals exist that, like Elisha, prove the same mantle and priesthood power.

We further see the repetition of priesthood miracles as we ratify covenants through sacred ordinances that bind us to our Savior.
