In 2 Samuel 5, David sets an example for us and asks the Lord if he should attack the Philistines and if the Lord would deliver them into his hands. The Lord says yes and so David shows his faith by going and wins the battle. He then gives the glory to God by making the place Baal-perazim, or Lord of the breakthrough, because he says "the Lord hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters."

He asks the Lord specifically if he should do something, the Lord says yes, he does it and then gives the credit to God. It's important to note that he, like the one lepor, remembered to praise God after his prayer was answered.

Later in the chapter, when David asks the Lord if he should go against the Philistines again, the Lord says no and then gives him detailed instruction of how to conquer the Philistines.

It's interesting that the first time David asked the Lord, he received a simple answer. After following that simple answer and giving credit to the Lord, the next time he inquired of the Lord, he received more specific detail, and again followed the direction.

This is a beautiful recipe for how revelation works. As we listen and acknowledge God, He reveals more and more, and we come to know Him.
