"Make Jesus Christ your standard, your rock-solid foundation. Build your life on His teachings, and measure your choices by them." (For the Strength of Youth)

I love how this quote says to "measure" our choices by the teachings of Jesus Christ. His teachings aren't just there as good advice, they provide a litmus test to evaluated out decisions, standing, and progress. I've been thinking a lot lately about putting the Lord's will above my own. Sometimes, it's difficult without taking the time to think about decisions. I've started asking myself a question that helps me measure my decision, that question is simple is this the Lord's will? I then answer based on the following multiple choices:

A) it is the Lord's will

B) it is not the Lord's will

C) it is the Lord's will that I NOT do this

The answer comes from the Holy Ghost and helps me practice hearing Him. Somewhat like good, better, and best, these answers help me exercise my agency by recognizing the decision, knowing good from evil, and then choosing.

Agency is difficult, and it's not always easy to choose the Lord's will especially when it isn't my own will. I am practicing showing God I love Him by striving to put his will above my own, and hopefully someday my will will mimic His more easily. I'm grateful for my Savior and the help He gives me in doing this.
