MinisteringFreeGoodSam, the Help me serve button, is $8/month on its own or $5/month with Premium

The people you minister to, in one place. Keep a summary and dated notes on each person, set how often you mean to check in and get reminded, keep their special dates and routines and see them in your own calendar, and gather a prayer list on the home screen. All of that is free. Press GoodSam: generate ideas on a person's page: a few scriptures that fit what they are going through, some small things you could do this week, and a short message in your own voice. GoodSam is $8 a month on its own, or $5 a month with Premium.

How to use it

  1. Tap Ministering on the home screen. The band at the top counts your people, who is due a visit, and the next special date; the cards under it are your people, and the two banners below them open the dates and the prayer list.
  2. Tap + Add a person and give them a name. Write a line or two about them under Summary: who they are and their situation. Then add a dated note after each visit or call; the date is the note's title, and together the notes carry the story.
  3. Set Check in every to the most days that should pass between notes (14 unless you change it). The chip beside it counts down the days. When it runs out you get a push notification; tap it to open their page. If you leave it, the app asks on its next open, with Not now if it is not the moment.
  4. Add their special dates: a birthday, an anniversary, a baptism date, or anything you name yourself. Each date says how it repeats — every year, every month, every week, every day, or once — and can carry a time, so "the temple every Thursday at 3 pm" is one date. Special dates on the Ministering page lists everybody's next occurrence, soonest first. The morning of an all-day date you get a push notification; an hour before a timed one.
  5. On the Special dates page, tap Make a calendar link and subscribe to it from Outlook, Google Calendar or Apple Calendar. Every date appears there, repeating as it does in the app, with its time if it has one.
  6. Write one line under Pray for on a person. The Prayer list gathers every line, and a card on the home screen shows them each time you open the app.
  7. Press GoodSam: generate ideas on a person's page. A moment later you get two to four scriptures with a sentence on why each fits, four to six things you could do, and a message you can copy and send — written from the summary, every dated note and their dates, so a birthday next week can shape an idea. The note under the button says what GoodSam is.
  8. When you act on one of the ideas, tap I did this beside it. That files a dated note on the person, which you can edit like any other, and the next time you ask, GoodSam knows what has already been tried.
  9. Tap a scripture to read it in its chapter. Talks and songs that cite those verses are listed underneath, found from the verses themselves.

Good to know

  • Names never leave your phone: before the notes are sent, the person becomes "Person A", anybody else on your Ministering list becomes "Person B", and every other name the app can find in what you wrote — a friend mentioned only in a note, a sister, a doctor — gets a placeholder too. The answer is mapped back to the real names on your device. A place name may be swapped as well, which costs nothing.
  • The suggestions are a starting point, not an answer. Read the verses in context before you share them.
  • Only what you have written is sent, and only when you press the button. Write about people the way you would be comfortable with them reading.
  • Talks and hymns are never made up: they are the ones the app already indexes for those verses.
  • Up to fifteen asks a day. Notes, dates and the last answer stay with the person, on every device you sign in on.
